OECD Guidelines Chapter 9: Science and Technology
When doing business abroad, you will encounter local scientific and technological developments. The OECD recommends you allow for these developments and contribute as much as you can.
The following is advised:
- Whenever possible, contribute to the further distribution of knowledge and technology in the host country, naturally taking intellectual property rights into account.
- Perform science and technology development work in host countries to address local market needs and employ local personnel and invest in their training.
- Set reasonable terms and conditions when granting licenses for the use of intellectual property rights or when otherwise transferring technology. By doing this you contribute to the long term sustainable development prospects of the host country.
- Where relevant, develop ties with local universities and public research institutions.
